Definition: [ ~ (at somebody/something) ] A remark that is intended to annoy or upset somebody.

1. Purposeful (connect to #2).

2. Person getting another 'mad' considers it necessary to do so.

3. Remark contains no fact - only half-truths, rumours, innuendos and outright lies.

4. Disagreement, protest, complaint, etc. made by the target of remark are disregarded.

5. Person making remark is ready for the consequence(s) of the recipient's anger, whatever this/these may be.

6. Remark is insistent, persistent and/or consistent. That is, remark is made repeatedly.

7. What is said 'gets' to the target. That is, person being deliberately wound up, becomes angry or upset.

8. There are no negative fallout from the remark made and heard. That is, the victim of 'potshot' does not react badly to what is said: walks away. In other words, person has some self-restraint or self-control.
