| DETERRENCE (1) Definition: The capacity that something has that makes somebody less likely to do something. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eight elements would be in. 1. Purposeful, even if considered unnecessary for the person trying to do particular thing. 2. Specific and identifiable capacity. 3. No inherent gain or benefit in the thing, to cause a 'defiance'. 4. Capacity cannot be easily defeated or overcome. 5. Consequence of disregarding thing is known as unpalatable. That is, the loss and/or 'gain' in situation is surely known. 6. Thing is not illegal, even if dangerous. 7. Capacity exists, lasts or is present for appropriate duration. 8. Serves purpose(s).
