Definition: The punishment of being kept at school for a time after other students have gone home.

1. Purposeful and considered necessary by school authority.

2. Form of punishment is allowed in or by the school rules.

3. Offence was committed by student. And/or, where necessary, wrongdoer owned up.

4. Parent(s) or guardian(s) is/are notified in good time, that naughty rascal will be kept back, at school, for some time.

5. Nothing exciting or interesting will be available to learn or do, while being kept behind. That is, no good or positive will be had by student in situation.

6. Some real benefit will be missed by not being away, as the other students, from school premises.

7. The time of 'imprisonment' will be considered reasonable, be this minutes or hours (connect to #8.)

8. Student will face no danger on way home, after release. That is, nothing will happen afterwards, directly linked with a late release, that will disrupt resumption for studies on the next school day.
