DEROGATION (1)

Definition: (formal) An occasion when a rule or law is allowed to be ignored.

1. Purposeful, even if unnecessary.

2. Situation (= occasion) is neither encouraged nor applauded.

3. Nothing unlawful or illegal is additionally done or committed, by who has been let off, during the occasion.

4. Consequences are not dire for the public or the person(s) ignoring the (a) law. Or no serious loss occurs in the situation. And the police/judge is not taunted as a result.

5. Law is ignored, not broken! That is, an awareness of the law exists. (Connect to #4, see definition, to emphasize.)

6. No thought (= need) occurs (= arises) to repeal or decriminalize a law, as a result of the consequences of disregarding a particular one.

7. No sanction or penalty will be paid in the future, by the person, community or the society, for the disregard.
