| DERELICTION (2) Definitions: i. [ ~ of duty ] (formal or law) The fact of deliberately not doing what you ought to do, especially when it is part of your job. ii. (formal) Deliberate or accidental failure to do what you should do as part of your job. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eight elements would be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary, especially if deliberate (connect to #5). 2. No justification can be given in situation - the wherewithal was provided or possessed, time was adequate, support was available, order was legal, etc. (connect to #3). 3. Some personal gain or benefit will be expected by shirker, especially where it is deliberate. (To emphasize.) 4. A sanction will exist for failure and this will be known by who fails to perform task or duty, whether or not punished for lapse. 5. Failure or non-performance will be apologized for, especially where accidental. And excuse or explanation in situation will, therefore, be accepted. 6. Organization, company, association, etc. will not suffer a loss from failure or refusal to perform duty. That is, thing not done will not be so vital to the success of a project, and/or an efficient or effective replacement will be timely obtained for 'absentee'. 7. Standing or reputation, regards or respect, etc. previously had by shirker, will be gravely negatively affected. 8. Who abandons responsibility will resume later to continue in the job.
