| DEMONIZATION Definition: The description of somebody/something in a way that is intended to make other people think of them or it as evil or dangerous. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eight elements would be in. 1. Purposeful, even if unnecessary, for the person demonizing another person/thing (connect to #6). 2. No lie or untruth is included in description. 3. No evidence is ever provided to support claim(s) (to emphasize). 4. Person/thing or animal being demonized is not present. Or where present, has no chance to refute allegation(s). And if person present makes a response, this is not at all believed. 5. Description is completely negative, and given timely, to help achieve goal(s). That is, the good aspect(s) of person/thing is never mentioned in a positive light (connect to #4 & #6, to emphasize). 6. A loss or some losses accrue to the victim. That is, a loss of esteem or prestige, reduction of patronage, avoidance of company, cancellation of contacts/contracts, etc. are suffered by the person demonized. 7. The person who makes assertions is believed; act serves purpose(s) or achieves objective(s). 8. The description is usually exaggerated.
