| DEMAGOGUE (1) Definition: (disapproving) A political leader who tries to win support by using arguments based on emotion rather than reason. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eight elements would be in. 1. Leader has a purpose and considers it a necessity to win support using this dishonourable method. 2. Leader and the supporters can reason very well (to emphasize). 3. Will publicly exhibit emotions, if necessary, to achieve goal(s). 4. Gains or spoils of office/position are enormous (connect to #3). 5. Arguments are made timely - when supporters are in the right mood to fall prey to the political leader's strategy. 6. Gets the support needed and this lasts for duration hoped for - before a call for reason sets in! (Connect to #8.) 7. (Reserved.)
