| DEFENDER (1) Definition: A player who must stop the other from scoring in games such as football (soccer), hockey, etc. ______________________________________________________________________ * All thirteen elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary (see definition!), especially as directed by the coach, team captain, other team players, goalkeeper, as applicable and/or necessary. 2. | 1. Never exhausted before a match, no matter the 'extra-curricular' activities he/she engaged in. 2. Never goes seeking personal glory during a game. That is, does not deliberately go to an attacker's / centre-forward's 'territory', with the sole aim of scoring a goal. 3. Never gets a red card! 4. Never afraid of taking a penalty kick, especially in a penalty shootout. ______________________________________ WITH ABILITY, SKILL AND COURAGE. 5. Has speed (and runs, whenever necessary) (connect to #2 above the line). 6. Has stamina (and, barring injury and being substituted, stays on throughout the game) (connect to #1 below the line). 7. Has strength (and is never 'overcome' in a physical 'duel' with an opposing player). 8. Has sense - football and common sense - of, judging distance vis-a-vis a ball's flight; estimating ball speed vis-a-vis the playing surface; disregarding or responding correctly to the opposing team's supporters' jeers / boos, taunts or jibes (where applicable), etc., in addition to the usual ones of sight, hearing, etc. 9. Has a 'sixth sense' (he/she is never outwitted by the wizardry of any dribbler or centre-forward or ...). ______________________________ CONFIDENT, DISCIPLINED. further below the line 1. Achieves objective(s) or serves purpose(s). _____________________ VICTORIOUS (?). much further below the line 1.
