DEFENDANT (1)

Definition: The person in a trial who is accused of committing a crime, or who is being sued by another person: a person accused or sued (law).

1. Has a defence counsel or is given appropriate authorization to defend himself or herself.

2. Person will not be deemed, by a court later, as wrongly arraigned, leading to 'the accused' being declared as ineligible to stand a trial or be sued.

3. Has no unlawful hinderance to defending self.

4. Does not commit another offence, or a contempt of court, while on trial or ... .

5. Gets all the time and support needed, especially from the bench (= judge or judges) to defend self. That is, given proper advice or direction, allowed to cross-examine witness(es) and examine evidence, given access to records, etc., as applicable, etc.

6. Makes a defence! (To emphasize, connect to #5.)

7. Accepts the (initial) outcome of trial, at each stage, whether he or she exercises an appeal option or not.
