DEFENCE MECHANISM (1)

Definitions:

i. (British) A way of behaving or thinking which is not conscious or deliberate and is an automatic reaction to unpleasant experiences or feelings such as anxiety or fear.

ii. (American, psychoanalysis) An unconscious protective reaction of the mind to cope with unconscious, personally unacceptable drives.

1. Purposeful and necessary (to emphasize).

2. Nature of action could not have been foretold or would not have been previously regularly experienced. And 'revelation' would not ordinarily be expected of the character of person.

3. Brings no unplanned loss, embarrassment, injury, disadvantage, etc. to who behaves in particular way.

4. Never required to be explained. And never needed to be apologized for, even if complained about by others present, if any.

5. Lasts for only the period that threat or risk remains. That is, stops or ends the moment that an undesirable situation disappears.

6. Will repress or conquer the worry, fear, etc. - temporarily, until another bother or concern comes up. That is, particular behaviour serves purpose(s) or achieves goal(s).
