Dance of death
DANCE OF DEATH

Definition: An allegorical portrayal of Death as a skeleton leading people of all ranks and types in a ritual dance. It was common in the art of the 15th and 16th centuries. It was a reminder that all human actions have two contexts, one temporal and one eternal.

* Portrayal gives the impression that ...

1. Artist (the "piper") has a purpose and thinks art necessary.

2. The tune being danced to is the favourite (a "Number One").

3. The beats (drumming, clapping, singing) will be non-stop. That is, skeletons can't tire and need a rest or to be reinvigorated.

4. Listener or hearer (you!?) must respond to the 'final' call.

5. Sounds will be understood clearly. That is, reminder is full.

6. Living (an action, activity, doing), in furtherance of goal(s), be aim(s) worldly or celestial, will follow therefrom and thereafter.
