Cost-benefit analysis
COST-BENEFIT ANALYSIS

Definition: (economics) A method of deciding whether something is worth doing, especially by a government or a business, by comparing the cost with the benefits that will come from it.

* All eight elements should be in.


1. Purposeful and necessary to use the particular method.

2. Costing principles will be right and provide accurate data.

3. Gain that may accrue is determinable and/or firmly established.

4. The opportunity cost arrived at will have no room for error.

5. Comparisons would have been complete, detailed and thorough.

6. The wherewithal, including a willingness and readiness, to do the particular thing, if considered worthwhile, will be fully possessed.

7. The decision-making process will be appropriately handled.

8. The gains of the analysis will be reaped. That is, the study will achieve goal(s), whether the thing is considered worthy or worthless.
