CONVICT (1)

Definition: A person who has been found guilty of a crime and sent to prison.

1. Person was arraigned in court - however caught.

2. Court had jurisdiction (to emphasize).

3. Person had legal representation or where he or she represented himself or herself, it was duly authorized/approved - not illegal.

4. Person testified at trial (where necessary) and was able to face accuser(s) and do a cross examination, examine evidence, etc.

5. Processes adopted in court were all complete and legal.

6. Trial lasted the whole course, however long it took.

7. Person accepted judgment at every level, especially where appeals to higher courts, are lodged (and lost).

8. Behaved well on conviction - from pronouncement of guilt to start of committal action, through period in prison, to release or discharge.

9. Learns or learned some positive lesson(s) from experience and will become a better person on release, after serving the full term.
