| CONTRETEMPS Definition: (from French, formal or humorous) An unfortunate event or embarrassing disagreement with another person. ______________________________________________________________________ * All five elements would be in. 1. Event or disagreement was unexpected and therefore unprepared for. 2. Area of activity is familiar or the person is fairly or well known. That is, activity involved is not unknown and the other person is no stranger. 3. Activities engaged in during the happening and the behaviour exhibited, by the person experiencing feeling, to the other, is not unusual or odd. That is, it should ordinarily not be a confusing situation (Connect to #2.) 4. A chance for making up for error, compromising or reconciling is not immediately available. That is, clanger cannot be corrected or amended as quickly as would have been desired. 5. There is a great loss or there are serious losses (= sadness, fear, regret, etc.) as a result of the occurrence. ________________________________ ... it's NO LAUGHING MATTER. | |
