Definition: Use of force to influence or prevent an action.

1. Purposeful and necessary.

2. Legal, approved or authorized appropriately.

4. Force is used timely, when the objective(s) can still be achieved.

5. Of appropriate measure(s): kind or type, quantity etc. That is, does not cause an injury, etc. to user of force or to the object on which it is applied.

6. Lasts for the duration necessary to achieve the aim(s).

7. Directed at the appropriate thing or person (no case of a mistaken identity).

8. If necessary, can be restrained. That is, it is amenable to control.
