| COCK AND BULL STORY Definition: A story that is unlikely to be true but is used as an explanation or excuse. ______________________________________________________________________ * All ten elements should be in. 1. Purposeful for who tells. 2. Necessity to tell a 'lie' in the opinion of storyteller. That is, person has a justification for making up an excuse. 3. Told on its own. Not narrated after an explanation, that is, not after another 'story' had failed to achieve goal(s) (to emphasize). 4. (Reserved.) (Very detailed - that is, 'revealing', even though there is no evidence provided, no 'clues' on its falsehood is given away, no plain exaggeration, etc.) 5. Has no lacuna. That is, story is told fully and completely, and where there are questions, these are all 'answered'. 6. Story is listened to, attentively and all through, from start to finish (connect to #5). 7. Story is narrated in a serious manner: emotionally and/or 'lively'. 8. What is said is accepted - not necessarily (completely) believed. 9. Listener(s) or hearer(s) still have doubts, however little, after the emotive narrative. 10. Storytelling achieves objective(s) (connect to #8). ___________________________________ ...
