| CLEARANCE (5) Definition: The process of a cheque being paid by a bank. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eleven elements, at the least, should be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary. 2. Cheque is properly presented, that is, submitted and received through the appropriate channel. 3. Instrument (= cheque) is confirmed genuine. 4. Account on which cheque is drawn is funded (unless acount owner is enjoying a special facility!) 5. Mandate is verified and confirmed correct. 6. Drawer's confirmation is secured (to emphasize, connect to #5). 7. Details on cheque are correct - figures and words tally, not stale or post-dated, etc., etc. 8. No material alteration is on the instrument (connect to #7). 9. Legality of transaction is not in question. That is, a report by the bank, if necessary, is made on the payment to the appropriate authority, before or after value is given to the payee. 10. On completion of checks and on being certified that everything is in order, payment is effected timely and to the right payee. 11.
