| CIVVY STREET Definition: (old-fashioned, British English, slang) Ordinary life outside the armed forces. ______________________________________________________________________ * All seven elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary to 'rest' after service years. 2. Life was looked forwards to, and prepared for, while in service. 3. Not lived close to military barracks or formations. (To emphasize.) 4. Entails being initially cautious or tentative in taking risks or making decisions, especially regarding investing, the establishment of new relationships, entering into a cooperation or an alliance, etc. 5. Will not require frequent visits to place or places of former employment such as army cantonments, naval basis, air stations, etc. 6. Can be survived in and will be permanent. That is, not a life being lived on 'the edge' as a result of a country being on a 'war mode', especially for the reservist (to emphasize). 7. Beneficial and progressive. That is, some good or benefit will arise from changed lifestyle or comparatively new situations.
