CHEQUEBOOK JOURNALISM

Definition: (British English, disapproving) The practice of journalists paying people large amounts of money to give them personal or private information for a newspaper story.

5. Payment is untraceable. That is, reputation of journalist and/or newspaper is not tarnished as a result of 'corrupt' practice. In other words, journalist and newspaper house gets a higher rating as a result of 'scoop'.

6. Information is appropriately placed or inserted - centrespread, backpage, front cover, etc., ... - wherever, to help achieve the purpose(s).

7. No libel suit or trouble of any kind for the newspaper house or journalist.

8. Money received was invested or utilized wisely by the provider of information.
