| CHARM OFFENSIVE Definition: (British English) A situation in which a person, for example a politician, is especially friendly and pleasant in order to get other people to like them and to support their opinions. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eight elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and a necessity to court friendship. 2. Person is not ordinarily friendly or pleasant. 3. Opinions are not lawless, confusing, cynical. _______________________________ See perfect GLAD-HANDLING. 4. Tolerates. That is, person will condone the attitudes and behaviour of others that he or she would usually challenge or reject. 5. Person spends extra resources, including time and energy, finance, etc. to maintain situation. 6. Reception received from the others is as hoped for. That is, situation achieves objective(s), especially for the charmer. _________________________________ See perfect INSINCERITY (1). 7. Person does not change friendly and pleasant disposition after attaining his or her goal(s). (But a true politician will change, after an election or on expiration of his or her term of office!) 8. People who believed the change in the behaviour of this 'charmer' do not regret their decision afterwards.
