| CASE (10) Definition: A person who needs or is thought to need, special treatment or attention. ______________________________________________________________________ * All nine elements should be in. 1. Person is believed not capable of providing the special treatment or care for himself or herself. 2. Demands or requests made by this 'helpless' person will all be granted, even though these will not be used or may not easily achieve aim(s) (connect to #1). That is, person will hardly cooperate or readily acquiesce. 3. Situation has been thoroughly studied, examined or assessed before a conclusion is made that person is incapable of self-help (connect to #2). 4. Person being helped or thought deserving of help does not reject or will not refuse assistance offered (connect to #3). That is, person can respond or react as helper wished for. 5. Treatment or attention provided is the right and desirable one, from the point of view of person being helped. Therefore no damage, destruction, etc. will be caused by the 'problem' (connect to #4). 6. Help or assistance, if given, will not be in vain. That is, the condition of recipient of assistance will improve as a direct result of the attention received (connect to #4 & #5). In other words, circumstance is not irredeemable. 7. Person is or will be present, reachable or available throughout the period that special treatment or attention is on offer or given, even though he or she will not be easily understood. 8. Appreciation will hardly be shown by this person being provided special treatment or attention. That is, situation presented by person will be complex or confusing. 9. Person being given attention is not about to pass on soon.
