Caisson disease
CAISSON DISEASE

Definition: The bends, a serious and sometimes fatal condition, characterized by cramping pain and paralysis, induced by a too rapid return to normal atmospheric pressure after a period in a compressed atmosphere. It is caused by bubbles of gas forming in the blood on decompression.
