| BYE (1) Definition: (sports) A situation in which a player or team does not have opponent in one part of the competition and continues to the next part as if they had won. ______________________________________________________________________ * All five elements would be in. 1. Opponent is not absent as a result of the machination(s) of player or team that earns a bye (to emphasize). 2. Player or team that is progressing without a 'battle' is fit. 3. Player or team wins the part of the competition that he or it participates in next (connect to #2). 4. Player or team would not have been disqualified, if the opponent showed up and participated in the stage (= part) skipped. 5. Situation (= bye) is not one that gives overall victory.
