| ESPRIT DE LESCALIER Definition: (written as - esprit de l'escalier) A perfect comeback or witty remark that one frustratingly comes up with only when the moment for doing so has passed. ______________________________________________________________________ See perfect WHEN. 1. Courage wasn't lacked when the time was right. That is, no panic, fright, cowardice, etc. during specified and identified past period. 2. Thought or conception of response or reaction did not happen then. And utterance would not have been rehearsed before being vocalized. See perfect MOMENT (6). 3. Does not get to be mentioned or said to the right person or party. That is, who ought to listen to the comeback does not get to do so. 4. Departed 'offender' not possible to be recalled or brought back to the location or get passage passed on to them to hear witty remark. See perfect MIGHT-HAVE-BEEN. 5. Frustration or being disappointed with self does not lead to some self-loathing. That is, no loss will be suffered as a consequence. 6. Experience of the missed opportunity never going to be 'forgotten', especially if another similar situation arises in the near future. | |
